I have a question regarding our "swipe book" assignment.
I am not quite sure I understand the purpose of the swipe book. Is there a particular way that the swipe book is done? Is the purpose to find out what kind of style I want my book to be?
Also as I'm looking through and surfing the internet, there are many different kinds of things that I like, such as illustrations, ads, corp id, packaging, photos etc., are all these things relevant? Or do I pick only those that are more heavy on typography and also only those that would be suitable for my topic?
On a slightly different note, I have not yet decided on a topic at this point. But one of my ideas for the book is a very personal one... journey that I took over the summer. Is this also possible to do or should I stay generic.
Thanks.

misook,
personal topic is fine.
definitely better than generic.
journey over the summer should have content to it other than the particulars of the mapped journey--
ie. the psychological journey for instance.
when we take a journey, ours minds are enriched, we see ourselves outside of our comfort zone, we're able to reflect, and hopefully be in

the moment during the journey.
sometimes/often the journey is more important than the destination or the departure point.
so, on that basis, journey is a great idea.
swipe book is anything you think will help you achieve the aesthetic you (vaguely) have at the moment for your topic.
topic will run a month, two months (depending on all involved) long.
so, prepare well.
you're collecting visual ideas as the beginning of your research on the topic.
including typography, product design, patterns, textures, color, textual materials, etc--
and all the things you mentioned.
anything you come across that intrigues you and you think may aid you in developing your topic.
you can edit later.
more is better than not enough.
good?
please create a blog and send the address to me and your ta, erica chung: ericalchung@gmail.com.
please post your questions and perhaps my responses on your blog.
it's the conversation i'm having with everyone, but individually.
would like to make it a general conversation that everyone can participate in.
love.
